Over It's About Time!!
IT'S ABOUT TIME!! — First edition of a new concert series centred on research-based practices that evade definition and do not fit within traditional new music concert situations and genres. The series focuses on artists that work in the boundaries between media and that have imaginative approaches to time and space. Each edition features composers, performers, and interdisciplinary artists, inviting them to showcase their practices through lectures and Q&As followed by performances or fixed-media demonstrations. For this edition, Danya Pilchen will present an improvisatory work highlighting the relationship between perceptions of space and time through acoustic feedback, spatialisation, and field recordings. Jasna Veličković will present insights from her long-term project The Art of Coil, exploring electromagnetic phenomena as both sound source and compositional material. Danya Pilchen is a composer based in The Hague whose main interest lies in the human experience of time and music's ability to shed light on it. His practice involves creating immersive sound installations that incorporate instrumental performances and employs various compositional strategies and listening techniques engaging the materiality of sound. Jasna Veličković is a composer based in Amsterdam who has been experimenting with and researching the sound world of the magnetic field since 2008. Her investigations led to the invention of the Velicon, an instrument she has been composing for and performing on, and to the introduction of other seemingly silent objects as sound sources.
Over Bajesdorp - GROND
GROND is een artist-run kunstruimte en vereniging op de begane grond van het Nieuwe Bajesdorp in Amsterdam Oost, opgericht in 2024. De ruimte wordt gerund door een associatie van zo'n 25 kunstenaars en collectieven uit uiteenlopende disciplines, met een nadrukkelijk doe-het-samen-ethos. De programmering combineert performances, workshops, repetities, previews en muziek — van ambient en geïmproviseerde jazz tot experimentele elektronica en theater. Centrale thema's zijn collectiviteit, duurzaamheid en procesmatig werken, als antwoord op toenemende vervreemding.
