Few man-made disasters grip the imagination quite like Chernobyl. In Raspad - the first narrative feature to depict the event, and a rare USA/USSR co-production - we follow a journalist, a doctor and ordinary citizens confronted with the 1986 nuclear meltdown. Belikov’s unpolished film blends documentary footage, melodrama and an eclectic montage to immerse the viewer in the chaos and vastness of the moment, evoking a striking sense of time and place.———————————————————"For five editions now, the team behind Sprouts has developed a recurring platform for fictional ecocinema and socially critical debut films. We have steadily grown into an interdisciplinary film festival, now present across six venues in three of Amsterdam’s city districts: Studio/K, Kriterion, De Uitkijk, Droog, MidWest, and QRU.While a five-year anniversary calls for celebration, each day we are reminded of why we felt the need for a festival like Sprouts in the first place. Autocrats, tech bros, and far-right factions continue to wreak havoc on our planet, disrupting ecosystems and undermining international law and human dignity. This is why we cherish the brave filmmakers of our 2026 edition so deeply: they defy systems to share bold, uncompromising visions. Over Kriterion
Kriterion is een onafhankelijke bioscoop en café aan de Roetersstraat, opgericht in 1945 en sindsdien gerund door studenten. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog begonnen door voormalig verzetsstudenten, heeft de plek haar zelfstandige karakter door de decennia behouden. Het programma combineert actuele speelfilms met klassiekers, retrospectives en thematische series. Het café is ook buiten filmtijden open en vormt een ontmoetingsplek voor buurtbewoners en studenten. De studentencoöperatie die Kriterion beheert, maakt de plek organisatorisch afwijkend van commerciële bioscoopketens.
