Over Hour of the Wolf (1968, ENG subs)
This screening is part of our Kriterion Kiest series, this time, it is our bold Tea's turn! In this Gothic story, the tortured artist Johan Borg (Max von Sydow) is isolated from society, living on an island with his pregnant wife Alma (Liv Ullmann). On the other side of the island , a mysterious castle stands, inhabited by even more strange characters; the baron and his perverted friends. Johan is haunted by insomnia and strange dreams when the Hour of the Wolf approaches. The line between reality and dreams start to fade, as Johan can be seen staring into candles, and speaking to his wife in bizarre nightmares. Directed by Ernst Ingmar Bergman (Autumn Sonata, 1978 & The Seventh Seal, 1957) who's movies are known for their reflection on the human psyche. In this film, which could be called psychological horror, we meet the sensation of an artist decaying into mental collapse.

Over Kriterion
Kriterion is een onafhankelijke bioscoop en café aan de Roetersstraat, opgericht in 1945 en sindsdien gerund door studenten. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog begonnen door voormalig verzetsstudenten, heeft de plek haar zelfstandige karakter door de decennia behouden. Het programma combineert actuele speelfilms met klassiekers, retrospectives en thematische series. Het café is ook buiten filmtijden open en vormt een ontmoetingsplek voor buurtbewoners en studenten. De studentencoöperatie die Kriterion beheert, maakt de plek organisatorisch afwijkend van commerciële bioscoopketens.
