Over How to be Human
An exercise in Restorative Justice In a world adrift, it is all too easy to shut ourselves off from everything that is happening around us: from disasters, wars and humanitarian crises. How do we remain connected to the world around us, and to its history – not only intellectually, but emotionally as well? Through stories varying from the 1984 Bhopal disaster in India, the largest industrial disaster in history, to the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, we explore the concept of restorative justice: the act of doing justice by active listening. What does it take to truly listen to, bear witness to and acknowledge the experiences of others? The programme is inspired by the performance Nothing Bigger
Over De Balie
De Balie is een cultureel centrum aan het Leidseplein dat al veertig jaar programma's maakt over kunst, cultuur en politiek. De programmering draait om het publieke debat: denkers, wetenschappers, activisten en kunstenaars komen samen voor gesprekken, filmvertoningen en kunstprojecten over thema's als geopolitiek, democratie, klimaat en emancipatie. Programma's zijn ook live te volgen via De Balie TV en als podcast. Het café-restaurant fungeert als dagelijkse ontmoetingsplek. De Balie richt zich op een breed maar inhoudelijk betrokken publiek.
